GPiLEARN Technical Requirements

Certain software downloads and minimum computer requirements are needed to launch GPiLEARN’s online training courses. The information below will help you use GPiLEARN effectively. If you have any problems or questions while configuring your computer, please contact our support center or contact your system administrator for GPiLEARN.

Software Downloads

Please ensure that you have the correct software installed:

  • Internet Explorer 6.0 or 7.0—This free software can be downloaded from the Microsoft web site. Please note: If you have IE 7.0, you will need the latest version of the Java Runtime Environment (Java 6.0).
  • Java Runtime Environment (JRE)—This free software can be downloaded and verified from the Java installation verification page.
  • Windows Media Player 9.0 or higher—This free software can be downloaded from the Microsoft download center.
  • Adobe Flash Player 9.0 or higher—This free software can be downloaded from the Adobe web site. To verify the installation of Flash visit the Flash Player test page.
  • Adobe Reader 5.0 or higher— This free software can be downloaded from the Adobe web site.

System Setup

Refresh and Increase Settings

To ensure that you will be able to view the latest information on GPiLEARN, your Internet browser needs to be set up so that it refreshes each time you go to the site. To change your settings, follow the steps listed below:

  • Open Internet Explorer.
  • Select “Tools” on the menu bar.
  • Select “Internet Options”.
  • On the “General” tab, click the “Settings” button in the “Temporary Internet files” section.
  • Select “Every visit to the page”.
  • Increase “Amount of disk space to use” to 572 MB.

Computer Settings

  • Open Internet Explorer.
  • Select “Tools” on the menu bar.
  • Select “Internet Options”.
  • Select the “Advanced” tab.
  • Select the Sun JVM checkbox. If you do not have this option, scroll to the Microsoft VM section and check the box labeled “JIT compiler for virtual machines enabled”.
  • Scroll to the Security section and check the box labeled “Empty Temporary Internet Files when browser is closed”. Not all systems have this option.
  • Click “OK” and close Internet Explorer. You may need to restart your computer to activate the new settings.

Clearing Cache

GP recommends clearing your browser cache once a month to optimize performance. To clear your browser cache, follow the steps below:

  • Open Internet Explorer.
  • Select “Tools” on the menu bar.
  • Select “Internet Options”.
  • On the “General” tab, click the “Delete Files…” button in the “Temporary Internet files” section.

The time required to delete your cache files will depend on how many files are stored.

Screen Resolution Settings

The recommended screen resolution is 1024×768. To change your settings, follow the steps listed below:

  • Click “Start”, then move the cursor to “Settings”.
  • When the flyout menu opens, click “Control Panel”.
  • Double-click “Display”.
  • Click on the “Settings” tab.
  • Select the “Settings” tab and move the screen resolution slider to 1024×768.
  • Click “OK”.

Hardware Requirements

The minimum hardware requirements are as follows:

  • Intel Pentium 3 or higher processor.
  • Memory 512MB but 1GB preferred.
  • Personal computer with network connection or minimum 56K modem for dialup connection.
